The Essentials Every Nail Tech Needs
As much as we all love the colour and sparkle, every nail pro needs those essential items for their nail desk (or kit bag if you’re mobile) to carry out your services. I’m going to share with you the items I cannot live without when working with clients.
Daylight Slimline LED Table Lamp
I have used this desk lamp ever since I started working from my own studio, almost 7 years ago! The slim design means it doesn’t get in the way when working but the light output is fantastic so even on the darker evenings during winter you are still working in good light. Which, is great for your work, your eyes and also taking photos! The arm of the lamp is really easy to move around so you can position it exactly where you need it.

Daylight Smart Lamp
This is my second option for a desk light and it’s perfect for anyone who does mobile work. I have one of these in my kit for when I do competitions because it gives great light for such a compact lamp. You can adjust the brightness and warmth of the lamp which is really useful when working in different environments. The lamp folds down making it really easy for transporting and keeping in your kit and the cable is USB. It’s basically everything you could want in a desk lamp but in a handy portable version!

Nail Cleanser
Every nail tech needs a nail cleanser! It preps the nail to remove oils and contaminants to make sure we have a clean and dry surface ready for application. I would recommend using the Cleanser to match your system. I love Light Elegance Cleanser because it colourless and odourless (colour and fragrance can leave residue on the nail plate) and it’s a 2-in-1 so can be used to remove the inhibition layer at the end of the service too.

Nail Files (Natural Nails)
I use a couple of different files in my services, and these Finish Files from Light Elegance are just perfect for natural nails or finishing enhancements. They are double sided, the 220 grit is great for natural nails as it is effective enough to bring down length without being too rough, and the other side is a 180 grit with is ideal filing the lower arch and sidewalls of enhancements. I also use the 180 grit side for tough toe nails.

Nail Files (Enhancements)
These are my favourite files to use on my hard gel clients, but they would also be perfect for liquid & powder acrylic too. They are double sided which I really like, plus the shape of the file covers a larger surface area making filing much quicker and easier.

Foamie Buffer
Ok, so these may be an optional item, but for me I cannot work with out my foamies. They smooth the nail surface to perfection and are also perfect for getting rid of any little straggly bits under the free edge from shaping. They’re one of those items that you don’t know you’re missing until you’ve got them!

Sculpting Forms
I think most techs are either “sculptors” or “tippers”. Personally, I enjoy sculpting as it satisfies my creative personality to create the whole nail with my product. These forms are my favourite by far. They are thin and flexible so they fit really easily under the natural nail, sticky enough that they stay adhered throughout the whole application including those clients whose hands are really warm.

Nail Wipes
I have two different wipes that keep on my nail desk.
Firstly, the Light Elegance LEpro Cleansing Wipes. These are the only wipes I have found that are 100% lint free making them amazing for using with cleanser to prep the nail and also to remove the inhibition layer at the end, with no “fluffies” anywhere in sight.
The other wipes I keep to hand are the Mundo Gauze Wipes. These are a bit thicker and hold more liquid so are perfect for use with acetone.
